Appropriate Tech Projects for Anyone and Everyone
Appropriate Technology is technology that’s environmentally sound, socially just, and economically sustainable. There are AT projects around the world built with local, easily-procured materials and labor. Many are projects anyone can learn to build at home.
We’ve partnered with our sister site, sustainability wiki Appropedia, to bring you our project pages. Take a look, bring ‘em home and build your own, and contribute your improvements back to Appropedia!

Current Projects at CCAT (Fall 2010)
Here’s a list of projects we’re currently building or otherwise working on. All links point to project pages on Appropedia.
- CCAT Green Shed
An eco-groovy garden shed (used for tool storage) with walls made of natural building materials and an upcoming rainwater catchment system.
CCAT’s Greatest Hits
A few of our projects have become visitor favorites for their sheer coolness factor:
- Pedal-powered LCD television and DVD player, the upgraded version of our most popular attraction.
- CCAT Wash-n-Flush, a toilet with a conscience! It has an integrated sink that diverts your handwashing water for the flush.
- Rainwater Catchment System — we collect rainwater from our rooftop and store it to water our edible garden when it’s dry.
